Work and personal life

UvA staff members can select or exchange specific terms of employment via the Terms of Employment Menu in order to save up for a larger pension, more holiday hours (save up or buy), or a reimbursement towards certain expenses, such as the purchase of a new bicycle.

Discount on insurance policies

The UvA has entered into contractual agreements with various insurance companies, allowing staff members to purchase a range of insurance policies (such as car insurance) at a discounted rate.

Parental leave

The UvA applies a paid parental leave scheme. Staff members with children can take out a period of parental leave during which they will continue to receive the greater part of their salary. Once this paid parental leave has been used up, staff members may also take out unpaid parental leave in order to care for their children.

Discount on internet connection and software

With UvAdsl, an extremely rapid internet connection (up to 20Mb) and a free modem, staff members can enjoy unlimited internet access from home for €3.50 a month. UvAdsl also offers staff members access to the UvA network and Digital Library. In addition, UvA staff members enjoy major discounts on the purchase of software packages.

Social commitment

The UvA is right at the heart of society. Staff members involved in unpaid activities that contribute towards the common good, such as a key management position or helping in school activities, in which they acquire new skills or knowledge or find new energy or inspiration, are entitled to take up a maximum of five days leave per year for this purpose.
